Organizing our communities time

In Pensacola several community groups became frustrated with the difficulty of knowing what was happening in the community and more importantly the difficulty in finding a suitable time to schedule events that did not conflict with other events. Specifically those groups were the local veterans and the entrepreneurial ecosystem building group. Over the course of a few months of searching the web for options we found a solution from Germany - calendar.online. This met most of the criteria we were interested in, it was free for users, it had both IOS and Android apps and a good web interface with a usable planning calendar view.

We started using calendar.online in July 2022 by creating the following calendars:

  1. An entrepreneurial events calendar

  2. Small business events calendar

  3. A sporting events calendar

  4. A veterans and military events calendar

We then realized that building these calendars was actually an experiment so we recast the effort under the Doing Community umbrella and established the objective “Organizing our communities time” and set out these key results.

  • Selecting a calendar tool

  • Get each community group to maintain their own calendar

  • Reach 100 daily users

As of this post, the effort is under way. Only the veterans are fully cooperating with submitting events for posting (after a bit of arm-twisting). As we continue to encourage adoption we will make further posts to document our hoped for progress or our failures.
